Comic book adaptation Ghost Rider motored to the top spot at the US box office at the weekend with the biggest haul of the year so far, $44.5m (£22.8m).The film was also the largest ever opening for a film headlined by Nicolas Cage, who plays the title character, a motorcycle stunt driver who moonlights as the devil’s bounty hunter. Cage’s previous biggest opening was the $35.1m (£17.9m) debut of 2004’s National Treasure.
