SUMAX
is now working with S&S Cycle to offer a new finish on a choice of three of the company’s engines.
The company is now able to offer two versions of the new S&S T111 for ‘99-’06 Harley-Davidson Big Twin applications. The first version is called ‘Black and Chrome’ and begins with Sumax de-burring the motor cases in preparation for a high gloss black finish. The heads and cylinder fins are polished along with the S&S logo for a contrast against the black finish. Then the oil pump, cover, lifter blocks and intake manifold are also powder-coated. Additionally, chrome rockers, pushrod covers, intake and nose cone are powder-coated.
The second version, ‘Candy Red Monochromatic’, sees the cases, heads and cylinders de-burred and polished prior to the powder-coating, with a silver metallic base coat followed by a candy red top coat.
The final engine in the range is the S&S KN-Series, which resembles a stock knucklehead. With this model Sumax powder-coats the fins a silver that contrasts against the Solar flat black powder coat. The same effect is then done with the kidney nose cone cover. Silver coated rocker bolts and the S&S logo on the air cleaner cover add more contrast.

PROGRESSIVE Suspension’s latest addition to its range of high performance shock absorbers are the 970 Series piggyback shocks.
The new shocks combine a high-pressure gas monotube design with deflective disc damping routed through two unique circuits and adjustable for compression damping via an easily accessible knob.
Both the shock body and the external piggyback coated internally to reduce friction and are capped with a forged aluminum upper. The coil spring used on the shocks can be fine-tuned via threaded preload adjusters to suit a rider’s weight and riding style.
The 970 Series piggyback shocks are available to fit the XR1200 and Dyna models, and further applications are in development.

ROOSTER Custom Cycles is continuing its re-introduction of the Perse line of components with the addition of the Girder front end.
Unlike conventional telescopic front ends, the Perse Girder fork’s leg does not change length during braking, which results in a reduction of brake dive under heavy braking.
The leg length of the billet aluminum Girder fork is calculated to allow 4in - 5in of wheel travel. Further billet aluminum is used for the construction of the triple trees, A-arms and axle blocks, and there is a choice of 3/4in, 1in or 25mm axle fitting. High strength 17-4 stainless steel is used for both the axle, and the steering stem and the left-hand threaded hidden axle is locked in place with a Perse ‘Pinch Lock’.
The complete front ends are supplied with upper and lower triple trees, steering stem, fork-stop, A-arms, legs, axle blocks with brake mount(s) for Brembo calipers, axle, integrated headlight, and a Penske shock. Fork blade options include plain, recessed dimples, through and through holes, or custom ‘tattooed’ engraving. Some finishes are available at no extra charge.

We really hope there was nobody riding this when the tsunami hit. Mother Nature shows us how small and insignificant we all are in the vast scheme of things…
Our thoughts, hopes and best wishes go to the Japanese people during this difficult time.
Because of Japan’s enormous role in the motorcycle industry, Greg Hatton and Jon Bekefy thought it would be fitting to organize motorcycle riders, enthusiasts, employees and fans on every level and create a place to contribute to the relief efforts, helping, in return, a country that has contributed so much to all of us. MotoForJapan is that place.
Link: MotoForJapan
Contributions are forwarded to the Red Cross relief efforts. You can contribute a little or a lot, but anything you give will help get Japan back on its feet. Look outside your own window, then look at the photos and videos from Japan. The people of Japan are strong but they could use a hand during this time of very immediate need.

The 7th Carole Nash Irish Motorbike & Scooter Show took place on March 4-6 at the RDS (Royal Dublin Society) Exhibition Hall with the organizers announcing attendance figures of close to 27,000; the same figure as the last show (in 2009) despite the ongoing economic situation in Ireland.
This year, the decision was taken to expand the Affiliate custom show to offer two prizes of expenses to compete at the 8th annual World Championship of Custom Bike Building in Sturgis, one to the Irish “Best in Show” and the other to the winner of the International class, making the event one of only three ‘International Affiliates’ in Europe which offer two Sturgis prizes.
One notable new exhibitor in Dublin was Zodiac International, who also supported the custom show with prizes totalling 6500 euro ($9000.00).
Winner of the coveted Irish Champion accolade was Ger Conlon of C&C Choppers for his bike “Rattle n’ Hum”, based around a 1970 Shovelhead, modified to take two rear cylinder heads, with twin Webers on one-off stainless manifolds, with 4in one-off stainless stacks.
The engine is also reversed, with a polished 6-speed Ultima gearbox turned around and mounted upright. The clutch is a modified Revloc running an open primary chain. The frame is a single-sided hardtail with eccentric adjusters for the friction drive, with the front end a mixture of inverted and springer forks.
Conlon kept up a tradition of being involved in every winning bike since the show has offered a Sturgis prize, assisting Don Cronin with his 2009 winning bike and winning the 2007 prize himself with C&C partner Mick Creedon.
The International prize was taken by Rene van Tuil of Revatu Customs for his peashooter “Ode to a Legend”. The bike is driven by a modified 1958 350cc w110 four-stroke single cylinder static water pump engine. Apart from the bicycle wheel rims and tires, every other part was either hand-made or modified by van Tuil, including the one-off board tracker-style single downtube rigid frame, reverse clutch, dummy magneto, 1 into 2 exhaust, crankcase breather valve and offset intake manifold, 8mm and 10mm copper oil lines, forks and yokes, oil and gas tank.
The standard of bikes in the competition continues to improve each year, with a record number of international entries competing for prizes in the Modified Harley-Davidson and International classes.
International bikes took all three prizes in the Modified Harley-Davidson class, with current World Champion Shaw’s Harley-Davidson placing first, with fellow UK dealership Warr’s Harley-Davidson runner-up. Lucky Buck Custom Cycles, also based in England, was third.

Last weekend saw Greenville, SC, host the latest of the World Championship program Ultimate Builder affiliate events at the Progressive Insurance sponsored IMS series.
CamTech Customs became the first competitor to win both Freestyle and Modified Harley classes at the same event. Builder Robbie Closson’s Freestyle winning Bagger was based on a 2010 H-D Road Glide, and featured a 26in Renegade front wheel, cut and raked frame, custom one-piece fairing and a Hayabusa headlight. His Modified Harley winner, ‘Rehab’, is a 2002 Dyna Sport featuring Performance Machine wheels and brakes.
Runner-up in Freestyle went to Copper Mike Cole of Gravesend Cycles with a heavily customized 1952 Harley. Redneck Engineering took third place.
The Harley-Davidson sponsored Modified Harley class runner-up was David Moore, with Greenville-based shop Metal Art Customs third.
In the Performance Custom Class, the win went to Lyle Collotzi of Bellissimoto with a 2007 Ducati 1098; second was Randy Saunter with a 2009 Star Vmax, with Redneck Engineering third.
