AKRAPOVIC, a company well known for its line of metric and dirt bike performance exhausts, has announced a move into Harley-Davidson exhausts.
To mark the new venture, the company has also commissioned a custom show bike, the first ever such machine from the manufacturer, called the Morsus.
“We decided to build this machine with our partners, Dreamachine Motorcycles, here in Slovenia, to demonstrate that whilst we are known for our racing prowess, we have such a breadth and depth of in-house talent that entering the competitive world of custom bikes is a natural extension to what we do,” said Neil Morley, Marketing Director. “The Morsus hopefully demonstrates our talent and is a statement of intent.”
The S&S 113ci-engined Morsus rolls on 26 x 3.5in carbon/ aluminum wheels and uses Showa USD forks and a Fox rear shock. Naturally, the exhaust is a Akrapovic custom titanium modified by Dreamachine Motorcycles and the shop also modified an Akrapovic carbon end cap to work as an air filter.
The Morsus bike can be seen this August 7-10 in Sturgis as it has been entered into the World Championship of Custom Bike Building.
The line of exhausts being created by Akrapovic for use on Harley-Davidson models features mufflers with a unique outer sleeve design, which morphs from standard conical tube into tapered rectangle.
The systems, for the Sportster, Touring, Dyna and Softail ranges, will be available as Open or Slip-On versions.
“The Akrapovic range is firmly targeted at those Harley riders who seek a bit more exclusivity,” says Akrapovic Product Manager, Thomas Friedrich, “riders who appreciate fine European craftsmanship, outstanding performance, design and of course the unmistakable deep resonant sound of Akrapovic.
”
The Open systems do not use a simple baffle, rather they are fitted with Akrapovic’s ‘real silencer’ and an optional insert is available to allow adjustment of the sound level. The Open systems include headers, silencer and heat shield.
The Akrapovic Slip-Ons offer full EC noise and emission homologation with a removable catalytic converter for markets where appropriate.
The Slip-Ons offer an optional ‘Valve System’ enabling the user to adjust the sound level with a simple switch. In addition, users can mix and match the looks of the modular system by changing end caps, or add a Noise Reduction insert.
