New exhausts from Vance & Hines
The Twin Slash pipes take their name from the 3in full-coverage heat shield that wraps around the 2-1⁄2 in muffler bodies that carry pre-installed louvered core baffles
Vance & Hines is continuing to release new exhaust options for 2012 H-D models with the release of its Twin Slash 3in slip-ons for the Softail Blackline. The pipes take their name from the 3in full-coverage heat shield that wraps around the 2-1⁄2 in muffler bodies that carry pre-installed louvered core baffles. In addition optional quiet and competition baffles are available.
The slip-ons, which fit ‘11 - ‘12 Blackline models, are available in a choice of chrome or matt black ceramic finishes.
The Shortshots Staggered feature full coverage heat shields, come as standard with louvered-core baffles, and can be fitted with optional quiet baffles
Moving on to the Dyna family, Vance & Hines has its Shortshots Staggered pipes available to fit ‘12 models. Like the Twin Slash, the Shortshots Staggered feature full coverage heat shields, come as standard with louvered-core baffles, and can be fitted with optional quiet baffles.
The 02 sensor mount included with the pipes is Vance & Hines’ new for 2012 design 12mm flat plane, which positions the sensor deeper into the exhaust stream, claiming to provide enhanced data feedback to the ECM.

AKRAPOVIC, a company well known for its line of metric and dirt bike performance exhausts, has announced a move into Harley-Davidson exhausts.
To mark the new venture, the company has also commissioned a custom show bike, the first ever such machine from the manufacturer, called the Morsus.
“We decided to build this machine with our partners, Dreamachine Motorcycles, here in Slovenia, to demonstrate that whilst we are known for our racing prowess, we have such a breadth and depth of in-house talent that entering the competitive world of custom bikes is a natural extension to what we do,” said Neil Morley, Marketing Director. “The Morsus hopefully demonstrates our talent and is a statement of intent.”
The S&S 113ci-engined Morsus rolls on 26 x 3.5in carbon/ aluminum wheels and uses Showa USD forks and a Fox rear shock. Naturally, the exhaust is a Akrapovic custom titanium modified by Dreamachine Motorcycles and the shop also modified an Akrapovic carbon end cap to work as an air filter.
The Morsus bike can be seen this August 7-10 in Sturgis as it has been entered into the World Championship of Custom Bike Building.
The line of exhausts being created by Akrapovic for use on Harley-Davidson models features mufflers with a unique outer sleeve design, which morphs from standard conical tube into tapered rectangle.
The systems, for the Sportster, Touring, Dyna and Softail ranges, will be available as Open or Slip-On versions.
“The Akrapovic range is firmly targeted at those Harley riders who seek a bit more exclusivity,” says Akrapovic Product Manager, Thomas Friedrich, “riders who appreciate fine European craftsmanship, outstanding performance, design and of course the unmistakable deep resonant sound of Akrapovic.
”
The Open systems do not use a simple baffle, rather they are fitted with Akrapovic’s ‘real silencer’ and an optional insert is available to allow adjustment of the sound level. The Open systems include headers, silencer and heat shield.
The Akrapovic Slip-Ons offer full EC noise and emission homologation with a removable catalytic converter for markets where appropriate.
The Slip-Ons offer an optional ‘Valve System’ enabling the user to adjust the sound level with a simple switch. In addition, users can mix and match the looks of the modular system by changing end caps, or add a Noise Reduction insert.

KURYAKYN has developed ‘The Perfect Storm’ range of parts as a complete bolt-on tuning package for Harley-Davidsons.
Each kit is made up of a Kuryakyn high flow air cleaner, Kuryakyn true dual head pipes, Kuryakyn Crusher mufflers and a TTS Master Tune engine management system.
Talking to AMD about the idea of creating a package of performance products that makes up The Perfect Storm, Mike Roland of Kuryakyn said: “It started out when we had the idea to enable any shop to fit our air cleaner and exhaust to a bike and send it out the door running. The missing link was having something to tune the bike with once the upgraded parts had been fitted.
“However, that issue was resolved when we started distributing TTS products and we got access to the Master Tune, which is part of the TTS product range. All I then had to do was build the calibrations for our combinations of air cleaners and exhausts and put them up on the website for people to be able to download into the Master Tune, so now people can have the whole package – The Perfect Storm.”
The high flow air cleaner and Crusher exhaust system included in The Perfect Storm are the components that help to free up the motor and allow it to breathe, with the fuel injection being revised and controlled by the TTS Master Tune. The TTS Master Tune recalibrates the bike’s ECU rather than trick it to simply add fuel. This reprogramming of the ECU can be done with or without a dyno, and due to the data logger and tune generator functions included with the Master Tune any user can tune a bike using a laptop computer.

The Old Way:
Until now, straight pipes have allowed for an overall decrease in exhaust back pressure. This has provided better top end performance and a big bike sound. But often at the cost of poor low and mid range effectiveness and an earsplitting crack.
The Tailgunner® Way:
Tailgunner® rotary cannon exhaust uses turbine induced Proprietary Variable Back Pressure. With an increase of back pressure at low rpm’s and reduced back pressure at high rpm’s you get an overall increase in performance through the full power range.
You also get a deep, resonant, throaty report that doesn’t hurt the ear. No more sacrificing low and mid range performance for high end speed and great sound.
The rotary cannons boast one of the freest flowing exhaust systems on the market. And state-of-the-art rotating barrels. That’s right: the barrels actually spin… Gatling-gun style. Engineered to enhance performance and sound, the resonators are hand-crafted in America and are flawlessly finished in show-quality chrome and stealth black. The barrel assembly is offered in brushed aluminium or stealth black. The Tailgunner™ is a universal, slip fit system and will mate with all American or metric exhaust pipe sizes. Whether you’re riding a cruiser that’s mild or a custom that’s wild, Tailgunner™ exhaust makes it easy to be original. Go Ahead. . . Give ‘Er The Gun. Sold individually. Made in the U.S.A.
